Sea Kayaking with the Whales: Campobello Island
August 30, 31 and Sept 1, Labor Day Weekend 2013!
Intermediate Level Kayak Trip

Sea Kayak where whales migrate passing between two nations, Canada and the United States. We’ll spend two full days kayaking exploring the dynamic coastline of Campobello Island, stepping back in time among the surrounding islands where the art of weir fishing is still practiced and where 20 foot tides expose a unique intertidal zone and produce amazing currents. Whales follow the flow of food through the “feeding grounds” as the locals call it, just off the beautiful Campobello Lighthouse. Stay longer and take time to visit Roosevelt’s Estate and gardens by bicycle along the quiet roadways through the island.

Paddle to Warren Island (In Chain of Islesboro Islands)
     Intermediate to advanced: 3 days 2 nights

•  2 mile dynamic crossing of Penobscot Bay
•  Explore the rugged glacially carved coast as well 
    as the homes of rich and famous from kayak
•  View Camden hills to the west (gorgeous!)

Warren Island Trip:
This journey takes us into the open water across Penobscot Bay for a unique coastal experience.  There are amazing glacial formations, beautiful cliffs, bays and summer homes.  The camping at Warren Island state park is posh but secluded, with outhouses, firewood, fresh water and trails.  We sometimes stop along the way at a more remote island for camping too!  After a long day’s paddle on day one, day two allows for time to explore the island and paddle around Seven Hundred Acre Island and if weather and ambition allows, explore the islands to the south of Warren.  There is a marina and general store nearby on Seven Hundred Acre island that has showers if anyone is so inclined!

Experience the beauty of coastal Maine's fall colors with a kayaking journey to the outer islands of downeast Maine! We'll be in the midst of the fall migration of birds as they follow the coastline south!
We're going in style on this trip aboard Wanderbird, a beautifully customized vessel that will bring us and our kayaks to amazing paddling locations that can't be reached easily otherwise! Captains Rick and Karen will take care of all of our meals and amenities while we plan our adventures! Each morning after a hearty and delicious breakfast we will launch our kayaks to explore remote and beautiful areas of the coast and islands that are not usually accessible from shore-based launching sites. We'll explore the nooks and crannies of the islands, picnic on beaches and in the late afternoon we'll meet back aboard the Wanderbird for showers, refreshments, and a comfortable place to relax and unwind. You will be pampered with snacks and maybe some wine before sitting down to one of Captain Karen's fine meals. Some paddling experience but all levels are welcome. Improve your paddling skills as we explore a variety of sea conditions with Master Maine Sea Kayak Guide, Karen Francoeur, of Castine Kayak Adventures.
