  • Penobscot River Restoration Project-New Recreational Opportunities presented by Scott Phillips of the Penobscot Nation and Northeast Outdoor Sports.
    This forum will discuss changes on the river that are expected to offer new and enhanced opportunities for paddlers now that the Great Works dam has been removed and the effect that the removal of the Veazie Dam will have on the water shed We invite interested water users and community members to join in this presentation and discussion about what the recreational potential of the river could be and how to protect the resource. There is talk of a whitewater park along the river which could bring renewed excitement to the area!

  • Canoeing the Allagash:  Bob Myron of Outdoor Leader Trainers of America. Have you ever considered canoeing one of Maine’s most sought after waterways? The Allagash Wilderness Waterway offers paddlers a chance to do an amazing canoe camping trip while running sections of river and crossing beautiful lakes through almost 100 miles of Maine forest land. Join Bob, a Master Maine Guide, for a slide show and discussion on how you can plan for a safe and enjoyable trip. Bob has been canoeing this section of Maine for over 30 years.
  • Maine's Mysterious Marsh Birds: Danielle D'Auria, with the Department of Insland Fisheries and Wildlife, will tell why Maine is home to several species of secretive marsh birds: rails, bitterns, herons, and snipe. Even the most focused birder may have trouble finding them amongst the cattails and reeds. Learn what makes these birds unique, why they still remain a mystery to most scientists, and how to increase your chance of hearing and possibly seeing one the next time your feet or paddle are wet.

  • What to consider when Sharing your Passion for Paddlesports:  Bob Myron of Outdoor Leader Trainers of America. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you suddenly realize that you are the most experienced person in the group you are paddling with? By default, we sometimes end up in a situation where our friends or club members are looking to us for answers. .we have moved from” enthusiast” to “mentor”. Join Bob for a few tips on some of the key things to be aware of when you are becoming a mentor of paddle sports.
  • Paddling the Yukon : Master Maine Guide Dan Pellitier, Of Maine Guiding will narrate a slide show of a a solo canoe trip taken in 1992, down the Yukon River. In this presentation you'll be entertained, by Dan's storytelling nature as well as learn about how to pack for a trip of this duration and how to plan for all the possible things that could happen along the way! Inspiring journey alone in the wilderness in a canoe!

  • What to Do If and When Your Kayak Capsizes!  Karen Francoeur, Master Maine Sea Kayak Guide of Castine Kayak Adventures. Have you ever really considered what would happen if your boat or a friend’s boat capsized and what you would do in that to help yourself or your friend? Learn in this workshop what you could do to minimize risks and what equipment could turn a complicated rescue into a simple and efficient one.
  • First aid for Paddlers: Learn about basic first aid for paddlers from John Tierney, owner of Alpenglow and Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School and a paramedic (since 1988) with additional training and experience in critical care and flight medicine. Among his many skills Tierney is a Wilderness First Responder and WEMT Instructor for Wilderness Medical Associates (since 1986).

  • Brewer Outdoor Club Stroke Workshop: Learn efficient paddle stroke technique with the Brewer outdoor club as they teach you in this hands on dryland presentation. Learn some great technique skills and take it to the water in the Kenduskeag!
